As light passes through a lens, it experiences a change in light rays. Subsequently, some of the incident light is transmitted through the lens medium and refracted while some of the light is reflected. This reflected light is not only perceived by others as glare, but also represents a loss of light transmitted through to the eye.

AR coating can minimize lens surface reflections, significantly reducing or eliminating the problems discussed above, reducing eye strain, while allowing more light to reach the eye, improving contrast and clarity. AR coating reduces lens surface reflections by actually generating reflections of its own. The index of refraction of the AR layer is in between that of the lens medium and that of air.

AR coatings, or anti-reflective coatings, are applied to the front and back of lens surfaces to reduce glare, thereby improving vision and the cosmetic appearance of glasses. Each layer of the coating is mathematically calculated to block reflected light, which not only reduces glare, but also reflections and halos around lights.

There are hundreds of thousands of these crystals that are deposited on the lens surface during the coating process. By treating a lens with a Hydrophobics, we are filling the spaces between the crystals of which the coating layer consists, and create a smooth surface without changing the properties of the AR coating. Dirt stays on top of the surface and can not go in between the above mentioned crystals. Therefore the lens becomes easily cleanable.
